Liz Pellegrom

CACAN Coordinator / School Counselor – Allendale High School

Liz earned her bachelor’s degree at Kalamazoo College and her master’s degree at Western Michigan University.  Her job as a school counselor meshes nicely with her work for CACAN.  What she works on for her students at Allendale High School is also what she wants for the communities of Allendale and Coopersville.  She enjoys traveling to the far reaches of the world, photography, relaxing on the beach, baking, and spending time with her husband, two sons and two chihuahuas.  

Dr. Daniel Jonker

Superintendent of Allendale Public Schools

Dr. Jonker wanted to be a part of the CACAN team to ensure that our students are knowledgable and prepared for college and careers beyond the K-12 experience.  He enjoys reading, playing golf, and traveling.  He has attended multiple universities including Dordt College, Drake University, Grand Valley State University and Eastern Michigan University.

Ron Veldman

Superintendent- Coopersville Area Public Schools

Ron has completed both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Grand Valley State University. He is a part of CACAN because he truly believes in the intent of working to remove barriers to provide more students the opportunity to prepare for their future by additional education/training beyond high school.  Though he doesn't have much spare time, when he does, he enjoys spending time with his family and completing renovation/remodeling projects.  

Daniel Remenap

Principal- Allendale High School

Dan Remenap is the principal of Allendale High School.  He has served in this capacity for 5 years.  Mr. Remenap's work history includes teaching English and math and coaching varsity basketball at Grandville High School for 10+ years, 3 years as an Assistant Principal at Spring Lake High School all prior to arriving at AHS. Mr. Remenap's undergraduate degree is from Central Michigan University, while his Master's and Specialist's degrees were completed at Grand Valley State University.  Mr. Remenap is married to Lesa and they have two kids, Madelynn and Marlee.  The family resides in Grandville, MI

Brent Hadden

Principal- Coopersville High School

Brent Hadden is in his first year as principal of Coopersville High School.  Previously,  Mr. Hadden taught English, coached Varsity Basketball, and was the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Allendale High School.  Mr. Hadden's undergraduate degree is from Western Michigan University, while his Master's degree in Educational Leadership was completed at Grand Valley State University.  Mr. Hadden is married to Laura and they have three children, Chloe, Brooks and Ellery.  They reside in Allendale, MI.

Tamika Henry

Assistant Principal- New Options

Tamika has also been a social studies teacher. She wants to ensure that she is fully equipped with up to date information to assist her students with the transition from high school to post-secondary life. She enjoys speaking with youth and reading wonderful books. She has attended both the University of Michigan and Grand Valley State University.

Aaron Haight

Director of Judicial and Special Programs- Grand Valley State University

Aaron has a passion for education, specifically regarding access to higher education for all students.  Sports and summer are two of her favorite things.  Her family enjoys attending and participating in sporting events.  She loves camping, swimming and reading a good book.  She earned her Bachelor’s at Central Michigan University, her Master’s at Grand Valley State University, and her doctorate at Eastern Michigan University.

Angie Barksdale

Deputy Director- Ottawa County Michigan Works/Member- Allendale Area Chamber of Commerce

Angie is with CACAN to ensure the workforce needs of local employers are represented.  As a parent and Allendale resident she supports the efforts of our community and schools to promote and support post-secondary attainment that ends in either earning a degree or valuable credential.  Angie enjoys spending time with her family. You can find Angie helping and supporting others in the community as she serves on a variety of committees. Angie received her Bachelor’s degree at Grand Valley State University and did her graduate work at Western Michigan University.

Deb DeLooff

Student Services Coordinator/ Homeless Student Liaison - Allendale Public Schools.

Deb wants to help all of our students be able to pursue career/academics goals after high school. With her position at APS she hopes to be able to provide families with information on ways to help their students meet their goals. She enjoys spending time with family, time on the boat or camping. She has attended Grand Valley State University.

Jason Fogel

School Counselor- Allendale High School

Jason is a counselor at Allendale High School.  He attended Purdue University for both is bachelor's and master's degrees.Jason is a part of CACAN to continue to promote a college going environment at Allendale High School. He enjoys working with all of the other committee members from community organizations in this effort. Every student (ca)CAN go to college. Jason enjoys working with our high school students and seeing their goals transform into realities. Outside of school he is all about family time and the outdoors.
Jason enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, attending their numerous sporting events.  

Jean Arteaga

School Counselor- Coopersville High School

“Knowledge is power.”  If she can play a role in helping students make educated decisions about their future, she is all in.  She loves helping students reach their dreams, especially if their goal is on a road less traveled.  Jean enjoys reading, doing creative projects, music, Pinterest, electronic scrap-booking, hiking, camping, and biking. She attended both Michigan State University and Western Michigan University.

Marie VanFarowe

School Counselor- New Options High School

Marie enjoys volunteering with CACAN because can she network with so many others from the community and gain creative ways to promote post-secondary attainment. Marie then shares this information to help motivate her students, particularly the first generation college students, to help them prepare for their futures. Marie enjoys golfing and reading in the summer. She loves laughter and spending time with her family and friends.

Melissa Bultema

Early College Specialist- NOCEC

Melissa wants to increase awareness of postsecondary options for families in the Coopersville/Allendale area. She wants to increase the number of students who go to college or training programs following high school, making the process more understandable and options accessible for everyone. Melissa enjoys reading, running, spending time with her family and relaxing at the lake. She has attended Grand Rapids Community College, and earned her BS and Master’s from Western Michigan University.

Jason Pasatta

Development Director for Career and Technical Education - Ottawa Area Intermediate School District

Jason believes that it is essential for each and every student to explore and be aware of the myriad of options that are available to them for post-secondary education. CACAN is key component in helping students connect with what post-secondary option will work best for them. Jason enjoys teaching, drawing, painting, and running.

Jodi Chycinski

Director of Admissions- Grand Valley State University

Jodi has over 20 years experience working in higher education, with the majority of the time spent in admissions. It is clear that the best investment a student can make is in their education.  Her entire career has been focused on assisting students with the college search and application process.  Participation in CACAN has proven to be a wonderful opportunity to further that mission through the support offered to Coopersville/Allendale students in completing the first steps toward reaching their high education.

Pamela DeJong

Professional support staff - Regional Math & Science Center at Grand Valley State University

Some of her past positions are vice-president of member services at the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, marketing manager of employee benefits at Lighthouse Insurance Group and also a small business owner. Pam truly believes we have a fantastic school district and a very supportive community and that it is important to be connected to the community. Volunteering is a great way to do that. As a first generation college student, she feels passionate about showing students the advantages of education, as well as how to achieve their goals. As a non-traditional student (and staff at GVSU) she believes post- secondary education is attainable for anyone, not just recent high school graduates. Pam enjoys traveling to the far corners of the world and is a voracious reader.
